1861 The American Civil War.

January 1861.

South Carolina became the first State to seceded from the Union. They were followed by Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. And the threat of Succession by four more.

Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina. These Eleven States formed the Confederate States of America.

February 1861 in Montgomery Alabama Jefferson Davis was elected President of the Confederate States of America.

Now we get into the first myth of the civil war. Here is what President Lincoln said at his March 1861 Inauguration. I have no plans to end Slavery in States where it  already existed He said he hope to resolve this matter without warfare.

Well there is a myth  that was not true. Even today 2013 most Americans  think the union went to war to end Slavery. If the Confederate States had accepted Lincolns peace  plan and came back into the Union, Civil War would have been averted and Slavery would have Continued uninterrupted.

The Great Emancipator. I hear people of today use that word when speaking of Lincoln. President Lincoln came into office  to save the Union, not to end Slavery.

I would like to take timeout and go back in History to honor the 1964 Bruce High School Dragons Football Team. From Gilmer Texas.
