4 Black Slave Women Of History.

As we continue in our series on 4 Black Slave Women of History, we come to our second Lady.


Mum Bett 1742-1829. In later years she would change her name to Elizabeth Freeman.

Mum Bett was born a Slave and spent her young adult years in the household of John Ashley in Massachusetts. When Ashleys wife attacked  her Betts appealed to a local Abolitionist who brought her case to the courts. Betts was granted her freedom and 30 shillings in damages. In 1781 with the case Brom and Betts VS ASHLEY, Betts became a paid Servant and raised a family on her wages. She proved to be a driving force in ending  the Slave Trade in the Commonwealth of Massachuesetis. She became the first Black Slave Women to win her way out of Slavery.

4 Black Slave Women of History.

In this Black History month  of February 2013 I must honor 4 Black Slave Women of History.


The first Slave Women that I will speak of is a Lady By the name of  SARAH Sally Hemings. 1773-1835.

A mixed race  Slave Women who became the SEX SLAVE of our 3rd Presidnt Thomas Jefferson.

Mr Jefferson Fathered A number of Childern by Miss Hemings and iam tolded that Mr Jerfferson enjoyed Miss Hemings company for over 40yrs. However Mr Jefferson never saw fit to give Miss Hemings her Freedom before he died.

So Miss Hemings after giving herself to President Jefferson for over 40yrs died a Slave and never became a Free Women.

Abolitionis John Brown.

John Brown May 1800-December 1859.

This man through his action at the federal Armory at Harpers Ferry virginia electrified the North and help push America into War.Browns goal was to break into the Federal Armory and steal guns, to arm Slaves to fight aganist Slave owners.

However he was captured and hanged on December 2 1859. Somehow I do not believe New years eve 1859 was as happy as New Years eve 1854 was for the South. December 1859 the winds of change was now blowing in America, and the Black Slave was center stage.

1860 would start a new America.

The 1856 Presidential Election.

The election was quite heated, The Democrats elected James Buchanan, the Republicans elected John C Fremont, and Know Nothing party elected incumbent President Franklin Pierce.

The Republican party condemned the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and crusaded against the expansion of Slavery. James Buchanan warned that the Republicans were extremists whose victory would lead to Civil War. The Know Nothing party tried to ignor Slavery. Fillmore receved a little over a fifth of the vote. Fremont receved 114 Electoral votes. Buchanan receved 174 Electoral votes. The results in the election indicated that the Republican party were close and with a few more States would win the next election. The Republican party after the 1856 election became a major alternative to the Democratics. Also for the first time in American history a top Presidential party was oposed to Slavery. After the 1856 election America was now on the doorstep of Civil War. In my next Blog I will Blog on two men who kick the door down and put America into War.

As I close this Blog, let me say February is Black History Month. As a Black American Vet who is trying to tell the truth about American History, I would say that Black American History and American History are the Same.

The Black Slave Built America and their story needs to be told. Their story cannot be put into 28 days.

The Kansas Nebraska Act.

This act became problematic when popular sovereignty was written into the proposal so that votes of the moment would decide whether Slavery would be allowed. The result was that pro-anti Slavery elemets  flooded into Kansas with the goal of voting Slavery up or down, this leading to a bloody Civl War.

Senator Douglas hoped popular soverignty would enable democracy to triumph so he would not have to take a side on Slavery. A wave of indignation eurpted across the North, opponents denounced the law as a trumph for Slave power, and the rich Slaveowner. The new Repulican Party was created to oppose the Act.

The Kansas Nebraska Act.

This act is so big and so important to American history that what it did sent the country right into Civil War. Well here we go.

In January 1854 US Senator Stephen A Douglas from Illinois introduced a bill in the US Senate, called the Kansas Nebraska Act, this Bill passed both houses in May 1854 and signed  into law by  President Franklin Pierce.

January 1st 2013.

Wow we have made another year. I hope you enter 2013 with strong mind and strong body. For me Iam so happy I have made it to 2013, because  just my being here is pure luck. In November 1998 I passed out with a BloodPreessure of 250.

But with Gods grace I survived, and Iam here today.

In 2013 I would hope that all White Supremacy minded Americans will change there ways, but Iam not hopeful of that. However I would ask you to consider several things going forward. Your children and grand children will grow up in alot different world than you did. Also your base is getting smaller. Look around the demographics in America is changing.

January has a special meaning for me. Today is my Fathers Birthay, and American Vet who wore  the Uniform. A  Black Man who never got the respect he deserved. Happy Bithday to my Dad. 1/1/1917  -1/7/1997.

Iam now up to January 1854. I would think that Slaveholders brought in the new year January 1854, just like they have every other New years, with plenty of food and drank, and good fun and music. Provided by there Slaves Iam sure they felt on January 1st 1854 that life was good. But starting this January there world was fixing to start to turn upside down.

For the millions of enslaved in America 1854 freedom was to began rolling   there way .
